I recommend you take a taxi from the dock to El Morro. Ask the taxi driver the cost of the fare before you go.

Hello, I was on the Royal Caribbean Majesty of the Seas, Nov. 29 sailing from Ft. Lauderdale. Tour taken was Royal Caribbean N103, Old Havana City Sightseeing for $89. The tour by motor coach gives you an overview. Nice tour; however, at end of tour option to get off at market. Beware unless you are in a group and watch your wallet. As we were sitting on bus, group of young men just robbed someone or someplace in the market and they were running from police. Telling you this because I am a senior and decided with by fellow traveler to go back to ship. On the plus side, they stopped at the Fort Morrow and across from entrance is a shop to buy cigars and liquor. They will take U.S. and Euros, NO COIN, only paper money so have exact amount and plenty of 1's so you don't have to take change in Cuban currency. Prices are Government controlled (I checked). Rum and cigars mostly, only place they stop that will take the 2 currencies. Lastly, long wait to go through Immigration which is a must. Must take passport. Also, be aware there is a $75 fee when you check-in at the port. I was unaware of this. Overall, excursion gave me an opportunity to see Cuba at least once. Any other questions, write back.

Nope, to put your idea into Perspective....Its like standing in New York City and expecting to see across the River in New Jersey A single Cannon ball blast that doesn’t require ear protection for those standing around it. You will see and hear as much unless you spend the $20 for a taxi ride.
