Avelo's CEO told The Ledger in February that the airline would begin direct flights to Michigan, but when and where was still in flux. Flights begin this summer.

Avelo Airlines is expanding its service in Lakeland with two new routes. The airline will start flying nonstop to Grand Rapids, Michigan and Long Island, New York in June. It is the only airline offering nonstop service between Central Florida and these two destinations.
