Retired Adm. James Stavridis said the risks of Israel’s decision to attack Hamas’ political leaders who were in Doha, Qatar, to discuss a U.S.-backed Gaza ceasefire proposal on Tuesday outweighed the potential benefits of the raid, during an interview with CNN on Wednesday.

Benjamin Netanyahu says the attack targeting Hamas leaders was "fully justified" - but Qatar calls the strike a "blatant violation".

Strikes into Qatar represent a shift in Israeli strategy, expanding the kill campaign against Hamas beyond the usual battlespaces. The Israel Defense Forces said that the airstrike was carried out using unspecified aircraft and was done alongside the country's Shin Bet internal security agency.
