Palestinians were forced to evacuate to the southern Gaza Strip ahead of the Israeli ground offensive as strikes and explosions continued across Gaza City on Friday.

In the weeks since Israel announced plans to take over Gaza City, its military has destroyed or damaged more than 1,800 buildings in and around the city, CNN analysis has found.

Gaza City has been filled with so many tents because it was one of the few areas of the enclave that was still accessible to Gazans. Most of Gaza has been under evacuation orders or part of an Israeli militarized zone.
