A Republican lawmaker in Maine has sued the state's Democratic House speaker over her censure that followed a social media post about a transgender athlete participating in high school sports. Rep. Laurel Libby's posted about a high school athlete who won a girls' track competition.

A Republican Maine state representative has filed a lawsuit alleging the state’s House speaker and other Democrats violated her First Amendment rights and disenfranchised her constituents by censuring her last month and barring from speaking or voting on the House floor.

None of the judges gave any reasoning for the recusals and the Republican state lawmaker's case will now be considered by a judge in Rhode Island.
