Pope Leo XIV is set to preside over the canonization of Carlo Acutis, who will become the first millennial saint on Sunday, Sept. 7. Acutis died of leukemia nearly two decades ago at just 15 years old. Years later, people have described miracles after praying to him and he has gained global popularity.

London-born Carlo Acutis, who died of leukaemia aged 15 in 2006 and who was dubbed “God’s influencer” by Pope Francis, will be canonised in Rome on Sunday along with Pier Giorgio Frassati. Acutis, who with his parents moved to Milan as a baby, was interested in the Christian faith from a young age, with a particular passion for the Eucharist.

“Blesseds” Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati — who are both beatified, the first step toward sainthood — will be canonized in the Vatican on Sunday, Sept. 7, the first such ceremony by Pope Leo XIV.
