Inside you find a (2014-vintage) Rockchip RK3128 SoC with a quad core Cortex-A7 that runs presumably some flavor of Linux with the Stella 2600 emulator and ProSystem 7800 emulator.
But we recently learned about one that does: EMU7800 from Mike Murphy. An Atari 7800 and 2600 emulator isn’t the most exciting use for a $50 controller add-on, but it’s a start!
The console can play both Atari 2600 and 7800 game cartridges, and Atari even enlarged the cartridge socket to reduce sticking. Notably, the system uses emulation technology to play game cartridges.
Atari promises near-perfect compatibility with original and third-party cartridges, and given the quality of emulation these days, I see no reason to doubt that.
The Atari 7800 Plus is a compact recreation of the original 1986 home console, complete with backward compatibility support for both Atari 7800 and 2600 cartridges.
