California Gov. Gavin Newsom will pick a replacement for Sen. Dianne Feinstein after her death Friday night to represent the state in the US Senate.

Republicans blocked a Democratic request to temporarily replace California Sen. Dianne Feinstein on the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein asked to be temporarily replaced on the Judiciary Committee after California Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna called for her to step aside, saying she's no longer fit to serve.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said he doesn't want to appoint a replacement for Sen. Dianne Feinstein, and he will leave the decision of resigning up to her.
