Snow and sleet is expected Wednesday night, turning into rain and sleet between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. before becoming all rain in the rush hour. Temperature are expected to rise to near 40 by dawn with winds out of the east at 10-13 mph., the National Weather Service said.

The first of multiple storm systems hit our area Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, bringing with it more accumulating snow to parts of our area.

Tom Owens, commissioner of the Islip Department of Public Works, spoke about the importance of laying down salt before the snow accumulates.
