Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Monday was "very good" and "constructive," as European leaders met with the US leader to discuss security guarantees for Kiev.
It was a striking contrast to the meeting six months ago, when Trump, red-faced and angry, accused an agitated Zelensky of failing to show enough gratitude to the United States. The blowup was so heated that the Ukrainian delegation was sent from the White House without being allowed to eat their waiting lunch.
President Donald Trump and others mocked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in March when he showed up at the White House in his customary military-style fatigues. Zelensky apparently got the message.
The head of the European Union's executive branch says this was at Zelenskyy's request. As Cristian Benavides explains, Zelenskyy is looking to avoid a repeat of that infamous February meeting he had with Trump in the Oval Office.
