Hundreds more National Guard troops are expected to arrive in Washington, D.C., in the coming days, with at least four Republican-led states offering to send soldiers.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said in a statement Monday that he has approved the deployment of approximately 200 Mississippi National Guard Soldiers to Washington, D.C. “Crime is out of control there, and it’s clear something must be done to combat it,” Reeves said.

Three more Republican governors have authorized the deployment of National Guard troops to Washington. It's part of President Donald Trump’s escalating show of force that he says is designed to crack down on crime and boost immigration enforcement in the nation’s capital.
