U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was in Israel on Sunday as its military intensified attacks on northern Gaza, flattening multiple high-rise buildings and killing at least 13 Palestinians.

The visit comes as the U.S. hopes to break the logjam in Gaza cease-fire talks and scrambles to contain the fallout from an Israeli strike on the U.S. ally.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit Israel and the United Kingdom to address security matters in Gaza and globally from Saturday through Thursday.
