WASHINGTON (AP) — Prosecutors in the Justice Department section that handles public corruption cases have been told the unit will be significantly reduced in size, and its cases will be transferred to U.S. attorney’s offices around the country, two people familiar with the matter said Tuesday.

President Donald Trump's administration is considering cutting most of the lawyers in the U.S. Justice Department unit that handles public corruption cases, four people familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.

Prosecutors in the Public Integrity Section, once home to dozens of attorneys, have reportedly been informed that the unit will no longer directly handle investigations or prosecutions.
