FCC, 60 Minutes and Kamala Harris
Meta agreed to a $25 million settlement over a 2021 lawsuit President Donald Trump brought against Meta for suspending his accounts after the January 6th insurrection at the US Capitol. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report the news, and Meta spokesperson Andy Stone confirmed the settlement to The Verge.
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr said he is launching investigations into both PBS and NPR, in the hopes of helping Congress defund the public broadcasters. His basis for the investigation stems from what he alleges are potentially unlawful commercials.
Paramount Global is in discussions with Donald Trump's team about settling his lawsuit against CBS over a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris.
The government has asked for the footage and transcript from the segment, which is the subject of a lawsuit against CBS by President Trump.
Brendan Carr, the Trump-allied chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, sent a letter this week to the heads of NPR and PBS announcing an investigation into the public outlets for airing sponsorships,
“Late Wednesday, CBS News was sent a Letter of Inquiry from the Federal Communications Commission asking for the full, unedited transcript and camera feeds from our interview with Vice President Harris which aired on October 7, 2024. We are working to comply with that inquiry as we are legally compelled to do,” CBS said in a statement.
