A day after a live webcast captured a somber-looking mission control room in the minutes surrounding its planned Thursday landing time of 12:32 p.m., the company has confirmed on its website that its IM-2 Nova-C class lunar lander is on its side — a fate that matches its first lander, IM-1, that toppled upon landing in Feb. 2024.

Private space company Intuitive Machines is preparing for its second Moon landing, with the Athena lander scheduled to touch down tomorrow, March 6.

HOUSTON—Intuitive Machines’ Athena Nova-C lander touched down at Mons Mouton in the south pole region of the Moon on March 6, though there is uncertainty over its orientation.

Intuitive Machines Inc. (Nasdaq: LUNR) said March 3 it hired James J. Frelk as its executive vice president of data services. Frelk joins Intuitive Machines from NASA’s Program Analysis and Evaluation office, where he was deputy associate administrator.
