The ruling from a federal court in Washington, D.C., is a reprieve for CFPB staff who had been bracing for mass layoffs as early as Friday.

A federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration from moving forward with its plan to cull the federal workforce until at least next week. Senior District Judge George O’Toole extended a deadline that was set to kick in at the end of the day Thursday so as to allow time for additional legal briefs to be submitted ahead of a hearing at 2 p.

Federal judges in Maryland, Washington State and New Hampshire have already issued similar injunctions to stop the executive order from being enacted.
