VATICAN CITY - Pope Francis, who is being treated in hospital for double pneumonia, will not appear in public on Sunday to lead his usual prayer with pilgrims for a second consecutive week, the Vatican said.

Pope Francis has spent his eighth night in hospital without further complications after falling ill with pneumonia, the Vatican said on Saturday morning. "Pope Francis had a restful night," the Holy See said in a statement posted on its Vatican News website.

The pope is not a quitter,” the Holy Father’s physician told journalists toward the end of a Friday press conference at Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

The Gemelli hospital has been treating popes for more than thirty years.

While Pope Francis has not yet fully recovered from double pneumonia, Gemelli Hospital doctors said Friday his illness is not life threatening.
