SAN DIEGO (AP) — Manny Machado drove in three runs against Justin Verlander and the San Diego Padres beat the San Francisco Giants 8-4 on Thursday in a sloppy game.

Manny Machado's two-run double highlighted a six-run fifth inning Thursday afternoon for the host San Diego Padres, who overcame an early deficit to beat the San Francisco Giants 8-4 in the finale of a four-game series between the National League West rivals.

The Padres tied a game they shouldn’t have trailed in the fourth inning, scored six runs in the fifth inning with help from a two-error play and survived a burst of a comeback powered by back-to-back homers off Dylan Cease at the start of the sixth.
