Atlanta City Council president not seeking reelection for ‘significant’ family medical issues
The president of the Atlanta City Council will not seek reelection at the end of his current term and will focus on “significant medical challenges” his family is facing. Doug Shipman said in a social media post that he “cannot in good faith ask the voters of Atlanta to elect (him) again” once he finishes his current term.

ATLANTA — Atlanta City Council President Doug Shipman announced on Wednesday that he will not be seeking reelection. Shipman, who was elected in 2021, said in a statement that “major medical challenges” in his family have caused him to rethink running for a second term, which he initially planned on doing.
