Eagles fullback Ben VanSumeren suffered a torn patella tendon during the opening kickoff of Thursday night’s game against the Cowboys, via Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.

The Eagles on Friday placed VanSumeren on Injured Reserve and signed veteran edge rusher Za’Darius Smith. As VanSumeren waited for the cart to take him off the field, DT Jalen Carter was ejected for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. The Eagles eventually won 24-20.
