The two fires are called the Derby Fire, located in Eagle County near Garfield County, and the La Plata Fire, located in Chaffee and Lake counties in the Pike-San Isabel National Forests.

On August 17, smokejumpers made initial efforts to contain the fire, but those were hindered after burning material rolled down the slope, spreading the flames more.

The Derby Fire, located north of Dotsero in White River National Forest grew to 839 acres Tuesday evening, according to the Watch Duty app. The measurement is more than three times the 245 acre estimation Tuesday evening. The growth has prompted evacuation orders in the area of Sweetwater Lake and a complete closure of Colorado River Road.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Derby Fire Department is warning people to be conscious when using and storing air fryers. The warning follows what the fire department said is the third air fryer-related fire this year.

New evacuations will take effect at noon Wednesday for the Derby Fire burning in Eagle County after it grew significantly overnight. The lightning-sparked fire was detected Monday afternoon in remote rugged terrain about 15 miles north of Dotsero.

It's currently estimated at 50 acres in size out in northwest Eagle County and a pre-evacuation notice is in place as a precaution.
