Cam Schlittler was throwing a perfect game through six innings Wednesday night, the longest bid by a New York Yankees rookie in nearly 60 years. The 24-year-old right-hander retired the first 18 Rays he faced before Chandler Simpson led off the seventh with a single to right.

Schlittler struck out Simpson, the Rays' leadoff man, looking at a 97-mph fastball on the inside corner to start a 1-2-3, 11-pitch bottom half and he made it six-up, six-down with an 11-pitch second, striking out Feduccia swinging at a 99-mph fastball to end the inning. Schlittler was at just 66 pitches through six.

Schlittler is making his seventh start of the season for New York, and is on the heels of some solid performances as he continues to carve out a role with the club. The 24-year-old righty has completed five innings in each of his last three starts,
